Jane Chapman is one of the UK's leading harpsichordists and performers of new music, and Mark Wingfield is one of today's most original jazz guitarists and composers. What they are playing together is on the cutting edge of new music, yet still hugely accessible.
Mark and Jane have just finished recording a new album Three Windows with renowned jazz saxophonist Iain Ballamy. The album is available from the major on-line vendors here.
Jazz guitarist Mark Wingfield and harpsichordists Jane Chapman recently made musical history at Handel House, one of London's most historic venues. This former residence of Handel, was also the home of Jimi Hendrix some 200 years later. In this setting, for the first time ever, the electric guitar and harpsichord; the musical instruments of Handel and Hendrix, were played together by two of Britain's most innovative musicians. They have also recently played at the Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall in Manchester and the Turner Sims Concert Hall in Southampton.
The strings of the electric jazz guitar, using the latest in sound modeling technology, resonate with the timeless strings of the harpsichord to produce a unique and beautiful landscape. These two highly original musicians create a scintillating and uplifting musical experience where the very old meets the very new, improvisation meets composition and East meets West.
